Getting The Right Screw Size

TIME SCALE 1 Hour

SKILL LEVEL

Screw sizes need not be an enigma to the ordinary consumer any longer, especially considering that we're already in the dawn of the Information Revolution. By referring to the table below, most anyone should have a better idea of what size of screw suits a particular surface best. For instance, a wood screw is measured by two different factors: the diameter of the screw (the larger the number, the larger the diameter), and the length of the screw (the length embedded in the material doesn't include the head of raised or dome-headed screws).

Whether a screw uses a Phillips Head or a Slotted Head used to be a big deal outside of screw size and length, but as of late, slotted screws are quickly going the way of the Evening Paper as the Phillips screw (or a Pozidrive/Supadrive Head Screw) has already become the unofficial industry standard. At any rate, they both require different screwdrivers that you can also easily avail of within the NuStock site.

Feel free to browse the site in regards to the different types of screw and the process of countersinking. Pilot holes (another term for countersinking) is an alternative method you can use when inserting screws; its neatness of fitting makes it quite the effective screw-inserting approach.
